Notes
Sergeant First Class Baxter was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On September 15, 1950 his platoon had seized Hill 401 near Taegu, South Korea. The platoon came under a fanatic enemy counterattack. While his platoon sergeant was tending the wounded, Sergeant Baxter took command on the platoon and directed withering fire upon the advancing enemy. He was killed by an enemy grenade.
