Private First Class Blue was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Private First Class Blue was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action on August 31, 1950 while fighting the enemy in Korea and was presumed dead on March 3, 1954. Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of Pfc. Willie E. Blue were accounted for in 2017. His name is permanently inscribed in the “Courts of the Missing” at the Honolulu Memorial.
