Corporal Bowen was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. He was driving a truck near Kobangsan-ni, Korea, when it went over steep embankment critically injuring his head. He was taken to the 120th Medical Battalion, where he died on July 14, 1953.
