Sergeant First Class Hood was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Sergeant First Class Hood was a member of Battery C, 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on August 11, 1950 and returned to duty on August 29, 1950. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Hoengsong, South Korea on February 13, 1951 and died while a prisoner on August 31, 1951. His remains were recovered on July 16, 1993 and identified on December 4, 1996. SFC Hood's name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
