Corporal Kidd was a member of the Heavy Mortar Company, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. His unit was a member of "Task Force Faith" deployed northeast of the Changjin Reservoir in North Korea. CPL Kidd was listed as Missing in Action when his unit was overrun by the Chinese forces on November 30, 1950. He was presumed dead on February 16, 1954. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. CPL Kidd's remains have been recovered and identified.
