For his leadership and extreme valor, Captain Krzyzowski was awarded the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Captain Krzyzowski was the commanding officer of Company B, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On August 31, 1951, he led his company against strongly fortified Hill 700 near Tondul, North Korea. After taking the hill, his unit was forced to withdraw. He ordered his men to evacuate the wounded while he provided protective fire. On September 3, 1951, he renewed the attack but was hit and killed instantly by enemy sniper's fire.
