Corporal Mettler was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Corporal Mettler was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting massive Chinese forces near Sogu, South Korea on February 12, 1951 and died while a prisoner on March 30, 1951. His remains were recovered on December 23, 1993 and identified on August 16, 2006. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
