Private First Class O'Malley was a rifleman with Company B, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously Wounded in Action by the enemy in South Korea on August 11, 1950 and returned to duty on August 14, 1950. He was Killed in Action while defending Hill 209 on "Bloody Ridge" along the Naktong River bulge in South Korea on September 1, 1950.
