Notes
Corporal Schoonover was a member of Company A, 13th Engineer Combat Battalion, 7th Infantry Division. On July 8, 1953 near Sokkogae, North Korea, his squad was attached to an infantry company. When enemy fire prohibited his accomplishing his engineer mission, he organized his squad as infantry and attacked enemy positions. He continued his support for two days. He secured another position and covered friendly troops' withdrawal by firing an automatic rifle until he was hit by enemy artillery fire on July 10, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
