Listed as missing in action, unrecoverable or unidentifiable, Corporal Spiering's remains were recovered in 1935 from small roadside trench and identified in 1936. His remains remains were returned to his home state of North Dakota for interment at a private cemetery. Corporal Spiering's name is permanently inscribed on the Walls of the Missing at the chapel at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial, Belleau (Aisne), France.
