Corporal Lane was a member of Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on July 20, 1950 and returned to duty on July 30, 1950. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on July 31, 1950. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered at the time. In 1987, his remains were disinterred and sent to the Central Identification Laboratory (now the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency) for identification. Recent technology in DNA and laboratory analysis allowed his remains to be identified in 2017. His name is permanently engraved in the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
