Corporal Cole was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. He served in the honor guard at the peace talks at Kaesong in 1951. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy at "Old Baldy" near Sinpo-Dong and Mago-ri, South Korea on October 10, 1951. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
