Captain Krzyzowski was the commanding officer of Company B, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On August 31, 1951, he led his company against strongly fortified Hill 700 near Tondul, North Korea. After taking the hill, his unit was forced to withdraw. He ordered his men to evacuate the wounded while he provided protective fire. On September 3, 1951, he renewed the attack but was hit and killed instantly by enemy sniper's fire. |
