Corporal Vance was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. Twice he singlehandedly, successfully attacked enemy positions. On July 14, 1951, near Hwanchon, North Korea, he was delaying the enemy and when his ammunition expired, he fought with his bayonet until mortally wounded. |
