Private First Class Howerton was a member of Company A, 839th Engineer Aviation Construction Battalion. On December 22, 1952, he was a passenger in a C-47 Skymaster transport, flown by the Royal Hellenic Air Force. During takeoff at Suwon Airfield (K-13) South Korea, the aircraft was struck by an Air Force F-80 Shooting Star fighter, killing all 14 on board. He was being evacuated for hospitalization when he died. |
