Navy Hospital Corpsman Dewert was attached to Company D, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. On April 5, 1951, his unit came under heavy fire north of Chunchon, South Korea. Without regard for his own safety and having received a painful wound, he rushed out four times to save his wounded comrades. On his fourth attempt, he was hit with a volley of enemy fire and fell mortally wounded. |
