Corporal Wallace was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Corporal Wallace was a member of Company A, 10th Engineer Combat Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. On July 27, 1952 he was trying to save a floating bridge from breaking up. His assault boat crashed into the bridge and capsized. He drowned.
