Ensign Thomas, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Attack Squadron 152, Carrier Air Wing 16 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS ORISKANY (CVA-34). On October 14, 1966, he was the pilot of a Douglas Attack Skyraider (A-1H) over Nghe An Province, North Vietnam when his aircraft was shot down and crashed at Khe Bu, Thanh Hoa Province. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
