Lieutenant Cropper, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Fighter Squadron 151, Carrier Air Wing 15 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS CORAL SEA (CVA-43). On April 5, 1970, he was the radar intercept officer of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4B) on a mission over North Vietnam. On returning from the mission the aircraft caught fire and he had to eject. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
