Boatswain's Mate, Second Class William Coffy was born in Virginia on June 24, 1899. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Boatswain's Mate, Second Class during World War I. After the War, he worked for the Panama Canal Company. Upon retirement, he remained in Panama. He died on June 25, 1966 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery with his wife, Dolores M. Coffy.
