For his leadership and valor, Major Bonifas was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Notes
USMA Class of 1966, Major Bonifas was a veteran of the Vietnam War. In Korea, he was a member of the 2nd Infantry Division. He was killed by North Koreans in the Demilitarized Zone while clearing trees to ensure visual observation on August 18, 1976.
