Specialist, Fourth Class Brown was a member of 362nd Engineer Construction Company, 588th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade. On August 12, 1970, he was bathing in a river in Tay Ninh Province about 25 miles west of Chon Thanh, South Vietnam when he lost his footing and was swept downstream. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
