Lieutenant Junior Grade Brown was a member of Fighter Squadron 211, Carrier Air Wing 21, U.S. Navy aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS HANCOCK (CVA-19). On April 29, 1966, he was the pilot of a Vought Crusader Fighter (F-8E) on a strike mission of strafing an enemy surface vessel near Pho Cat Ba, near Haiphong Harbor, North Vietnam, when his aircraft collided with a karst rock jutting out of the water 300 yards from the target. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
