For his leadership and valor, Major General Cramer was awarded the Silver Star with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal, the World War I Victory Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Major General Cramer was a veteran of World War I and World War II. During the Korean War he commanded the Southern Area Command in Germany. He died of a myocardial infarction while hunting near Heidelberg, Germany on February 20, 1954.
