For his leadership and valor, Lieutenant Junior Grade Evans was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Evans a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the pilot of a F9F-2 Panther Jet fighter with Fighter Squadron 93, aboard the aircraft carrier USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CVA-47). On February 16, 1953, while attacking bridges and interdicting railways, his aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire and crashed into the water. He was listed as Missing in Action. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
