For his leadership and valor, Captain Howe was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
USMA Class of 1945, Captain Howe was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the commander of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on January 31, 1951.
