For his unselfish action and extraordinary heroism, Corporal Johnson was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Purple Heart, the Combat Medical Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Corporal Johnson was a medic with the Medical Company attached to Company B, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while rendering aid to his comrades near Sanae-Dong, South Korea on May 29, 1953. Although nearly blinded from mortar fragments, he continued to aid his comrades until mortally wounded. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
