For his leadership and valor, First Lieutenant King was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
First Lieutenant King was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy at Kumhwa Valley, "Beckman Ridge, Punchbowl of the Iron Triangle," North Korea on August 6, 1952.
