Lieutenant Martin, born in Korea, was a doctor with a Naval research team aboard the Naval ship USS LSI (L) in Korean waters researching tropical diseases. On September 27, 1951, he was a passenger on a C-46D transport enroute from Pusan East Airfield (K-9) to Tachikawa, Japan, when his aircraft crashed into Mt. Tanazawa at Odawara, Japan.
