Initially listed as missing in action, non-recoverable or unidentifiable, Sergeant Matthiessen's remains were recovered and identified. His remains are interred at the Beverly National Cemetery at Beverly, NJ. His name is permanently inscribed on the Tablets of the Missing at the Ardennes American Cemetery and Memorial at Neupre (Neuville-en-Condroz), Belgium.
