Lieutenant Colonel Moyer was the pilot of a B-26C with the 90th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Wing based at Kunsan Airfield (K-8). On August 30, 1951, while departing on a night intruder mission, one of his aircraft engines caught fire and the plane pancaked into the mud flats of the Yellow Sea.
