Lieutenant Colonel Moyer was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
Lieutenant Colonel Moyer was the pilot of a B-26C with the 90th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Wing based at Kunsan Airfield (K-8). On August 30, 1951, while departing on a night intruder mission, one of his aircraft engines caught fire and the plane pancaked into the mud flats of the Yellow Sea.
