First Lieutenant Richardson was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf cluster, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
First Lieutenant Richardson was the pilot of a F-84E Thunderjet fighter with the 7th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, 49th Fighter-Bomber Group. On June 16, 1953, he was leading a group of four F-84 Thunderjets from Kunsan Air Base (K-8) on an armed reconnaissance mission over North Korea. As he pulled up from strafing enemy targets, his aircraft was hit by ground fire and crashed south of Wonsan, Korea. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on June 17, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
