Private First Class Slattery was a member of the 212nd Military Police Company serving at the Demilitarized Zone in Korea. He was on patrol near the DMZ at 3:00 am on February 2, 1954, when his jeep skidded off an ice covered timber trestle bridge and fell thirty feet to the ground causing a fatal head injury.
