Sgt. Ward was killed in an aircraft crash in Burma on April 25, 1945. He remains were not immediately recovered and he was assigned an administrative date of death of April 26, 1946. After the war, his remains were recovered and identified along with the rest of those aboard the aircraft. He is buried in a group burial in Long Island National Cemetery with three other members of his crew and two members of the British Army. His name is permanently engraved on the Walls of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery.
