Lieutenant Junior Grade Westervelt was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter with Fighter Squadron 192 aboard the USS PRINCETON (CV-37). On September 12, 1952, following a bombing run on an industrial target near Kowon, Korea, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed into a hillside. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
