Notes

Captain Whitesides was a member of the 19th Tactical Air Support Squadron at Khe Sanh Airfield, South Vietnam. On March 26, 1964, he was flying in a Cessna Bird Dog Observation Aircraft (L-19) on a two hour visual reconnaissance over South Vietnam. The aircraft developed engine problems and crashed in a Viet Cong stronghold. CAPT Whitesides' name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. His remains have been recovered and identified.
