Private First Class Garcia was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. His company was assigned the mission of seizing and securing a heavily fortified hill near Sanghjong-ni, South Korea on May 26, 1951. He took an automatic weapon from a fallen comrade and led his squad in the attack. Although badly wounded he continued the attack killing 12 enemy soldiers before being mortally wounded. |
