Netherlands American Cemetery is the only cemetery in the Netherlands dedicated to honoring fallen Americans who served during World War II. The site was liberated Sept. 13, 1944, by troops of the U.S. 30th Infantry Division, who were advancing northeastward toward the Roer River in Germany, as part of the U.S. First Army. A battlefield cemetery, one of the first to be used to bury American service members who fell in Germany, was established here Nov. 10, 1944, by the U.S. Ninth Army. Approximately 8,300 U.S. service members are buried at the site and more than 1,700 others are memorialized on its Walls of the Missing. Bronze rosettes mark the names of those since recovered and identified.

Memorial tower centered at the end of a tree-lined avenue at Netherlands American Cemetery, with rows of white headstones and dramatic sun rays breaking through clouds in a blue sky.
More than 8,000 WWII fallen are buried at Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands.
