For his leadership and valor, Lieutenant Carros was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with Gold Star, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Lieutenant Carros was the pilot of a F9F-2 Panther Jet fighter with Fighter Squadron 52, aboard the aircraft carrier USS VALLEY FORGE (CV-45). On May 2, 1952, while on a combat mission over the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea, his aircraft was struck by small arms fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
