Captain Bohlscheid was a member of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165, Marine Air Group 16, 1st Marine Air Wing. On June 11, 1967, he was the pilot of a Boeing Sea Knight Cargo Helicopter (CH-46A) that was inserting a seven man reconnaissance team about a half mile northwest of Dong Ha, South Vietnam. When approaching the landing site, the aircraft was hit by enemy fire, caught fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
