Colonel Glessner was a member of Headquarters and Service Company, 18th Fighter Bomber Group. On February 2, 1951, he was the pilot of a F-51D Mustang night fighter from the 12th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 18th Fighter Bomber Wing. while on a combat mission, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed southeast of Suan, Korea. He was listed as Missing in Action and presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
