Norman J. Cornett was born in Perry County, Kentucky on November 17, 1888. He enlisted as a Private in the U.S. Army on June 23,1908 and was assigned to Company F, 10th Infantry, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was discharged on May 22, 1911. He then moved to the Canal Zone to work as a railroad storekeeper for the Panama Canal Railroad. Later he worked as a purchaser for the Panama Canal Company Commissary. He was awarded the Roosevelt Medal for his service. He died on May 25, 1934. He was buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery then reinterred at the Corozal American Cemetery in 1979.
