Karl Philip Curtis was born in Boxford, Essex County, Massachusetts on October 28, 1883. He married Beatrice K. Curtis and they moved to Panama in 1905, where he was employed by the Panama Canal Company constructing new buildings on the Ancon Hospital Grounds forming the Gorgas Hospital. He received the Roosevelt Medal with three service bars. After he retired they lived in Gamboa, he was a recognized authority on archeology. He died on January 14, 1966 and is buried at Corozal American Cemetery with his wife, Beatrice K. Curtis.
