Mr. McGahhey served as a First Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment who reported for duty in Panama after the unit served in Texas conducting border patrols in the lower Rio Grande Valley, where they engaged small detachments of raiding bandits until February 1916. Later, as a civilian he remained in Panama where he was employed by the Panama Canal Company. He retired from the Panama Canal Company. He died on February 16, 1971 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery with his wife, Marguerite Sue McGahhey.
