Gunnery Sergeant Bodden was a member of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165, Marine Air Group 36, 1st Marine Air Wing. On June 3, 1967, he was crew chief of a Boeing Sea Knight Cargo Helicopter (CH-46A) that picked up U.S. Army Special Forces team in Laos. The aircraft received heavy small arms fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on February 16, 1999 and identified on August 14, 2000. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
