Staff Sergeant Burke was a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division. On October 19, 1966, he was declared missing 15 miles northwest of Da Nang, Quang Nam Province, South Vietnam near the Cua Viet River. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
