Lieutenant Junior Grade Carlson, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Fighter Squadron 96, Carrier Air Wing 9 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS ENTERPRISE (CVAN-65). On February 12, 1967, he was the Radio Intercept Officer of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4B) on a training mission near the ENTERPRISE when his aircraft crashed into the ocean. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
