Staff Sergeant Corfield was a member of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165, Marine Air Group 36, 1st Marine Air Wing. On May 1, 1967, he was a gunner in a Boeing Sea Knight Cargo Helicopter (CH-46A) medical evacuating wounded. As it approached the hospital ship it crashed into the sea offshore South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
