Corporal Crody was a member of the Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165, Marine Air Group 36, 1st Marine Air Wing. On July 11, 1972, he was a gunner on a Sikorsky Sea Stallion Cargo Helicopter (CH-53D) based on board the Amphibious Assault Ship (Helicopter) USS TRIPOLI (LPH-10). The helicopter was inserting troops near Quang Tri City, South Vietnam, when the aircraft was hit by a heat seeking SA-7 missile, burst into flames and crashed. His remains were recovered on August 29, 2000 and identified on April 23, 2004. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
