Lieutenant Commander Crosby was a member of Detachment M, Light Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron 63, Carrier Air Wing 9 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS RANGER (CVA-61). On June 1, 1965, he was the pilot of a Vought Crusader Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-8A) on a combat mission 5 miles from Tranh Hoa, Tranh Hoa Province, North Vietnam when his aircraft was hit by enemy fire and crashed. Listed as Missing in Action during the Vietnam War, his name is permanently engraved in the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. Lt. Cmdr. Crosby’s remains were recovered in 2015 and the Department of Defense made a positive identification in 2016
